Early treatment of infants and toddlers, when they are discovered to be lagging behind the guidelines for normal development, is the best way to help them "catch up" before they fall farther behind and reduces the risk of developmental delay. Early intervention can address many different aspects of the child's development: hearing, speaking, grasping, moving, seeing, and responding to the world around them, and the people in it, in an age appropriate way.
Treatment involves working with the family and the child, assisting the family in understanding how they can support and encourage normal development in their child through guided play, positioning and other activities.
